Technical and Business Assistance (TABA), authorized under the Small Business Innovation and Economic Security Act and 15 U.S.C. § 638(q)(1), provides eligible Department of the Air Force (DAF) SBIR/STTR awardees with additional funding to access technical expertise, commercialization support, and specialized services that reduce technical risk and accelerate technology transition.

Who Can Participate?
The Department of the Air Force (DAF) offers Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) for many SBIR/STTR topics. Eligibility requirements are outlined in the Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) and the component instructions for each solicitation. Participation is voluntary, and TABA availability varies by solicitation.
DAF SBIR/STTR supports the following awardee types of participation in the TABA Program:
- Phase I businesses are eligible to receive up to $6,500 per project (in addition to the maximum award amount for the applicable SBIR/STTR topic)
- Phase II businesses are eligible to receive up to $50,000 per project, at any time during the period of performance of the project.
How to Request TABA
Companies can request TABA support within their proposal when applying for a SBIR/STTR award. To request TABA funding, include:
- A justification describing how the services will support your project.
- Information about the proposed provider, including contact information and qualifications.
- The requested costs in your proposal’s Cost Volume.
- Refer to the applicable solicitation for complete submission requirements and component-specific instructions.
